All upgrade drives are shipped after low-level format, surface recertification, software load, and functional test. Unless specified all drives are single drive replacements.
We fully qualify and test every single drive that we ship. We don't just load and ship. We perform testing on every drive we ship and we test every new model hard drive in all of our ReplayTV and ensure compatibility. That means you can be assured that the drive you are getting has worked and will your in your ReplayTV model. We recommend active cooling when using the 7200RPM drives with older legacy ReplayTV units.
Beware of vendors that load software on drives and ship without full testing. The software for ReplayTV models have been posted on the web, allowing competitors to load software without testing for functionality and performance.
Because of our extensive testing program, our backlog for drives gets to be fairly sizable. In some cases, it may be as long as 5 business days, especially for popular models like the Showstopper/RTV3000 and RTV5000/5500 models. Please let us know if you would like to have your drive sooner and we can abbreviate the functional testing for you. We do not skip the certification process but we can avoid the longer queue for functional and stress testing. We will test the drive for bootup and validate initial dialup and setup then ship the drive to you. This allows us to ship a drive within 2-4 business days of your order. The warranty is not affected by the level of testing you request us to do. Please keep in mind that we will not agree to skip all testing.
Our backlog is affected by our testing program. We have 10 Pentium 4 computers dedicated to low level format and recertification testing on a 24x7 basis. We have 3 Pentium D workstations dedicated to RTVPatch and a Pentium 4 computer dedicated to TiVo MFS Tools. We have the following test DVRs running 24x7 verifying and stress testing drives before shipment: RTV2020, Comcast, AT&T, RTV3020, Panasonic Showstopper, RTV4040, RTV4504, RTV5040, RTV5504, TiVo Series 1, TiVo Series 2, and a Sony TiVo SVR2000.
The custom nature of drive upgrades makes it very difficult to keep fully tested drives on our shelves. For the pre-broadband ReplayTV models, we ship 7 different single drive sizes and there are 5 different models of ReplayTV which means that we have 35 different drive possibilities. It's very difficult to keep those in a ready to ship inventory. There are 4 broadband capable ReplayTV models and we ship 10 different single drive configurations. That makes for a total of 75 possible models.
We sell a lot of drives every month and we try to keep the flow of bare drives to match our production rates but sometimes weather and manufacturer inventory may delay our deliveries. Please be patient as we strive to constantly deliver the best possible and reliable product to you. We have enough equipment to ship 500 untested drives a day but we choose to maintain the quality.
